Flying High with Books

Dear Passengers,

Are you a bookworm? Are you a book lover? I am. I have read books since I was a little girl.

Reading is quite a lonely activity, though. When you read, you hardly tell anyone what you think about this or that book.

Readers sometimes gather together and talk about books. This is what is known as a book club. Books clubs may have a strict structure which force people to read the same book at the same time. Flying High with Books is not a book blub in the strict sense. We have our "compulsory" readers which we work on throughout the school year. However, this site is not about compulsory reading. Reading cannot be compulsory, shouldn´t be. When something has to be done just because somebody says so, things are going badly.

Reading should be a pleasure, a source of enjoyment. Flying High with Books is the right place for students who enjoy reading a good story and want to share it with the rest of classmates.

Flying high with books wants to provide students with a space where they can write about and comment on what they read. By doing this, we hope to engage the more reluctant readers at school in this exciting, gamified adventure. Learn about the narrative and the mechanics behind flying high with books HERE.

Have you ever thought about the reasons why you read? You can leave your comments and ideas on the padlet provided for that purpose.

Needless to say that, as a teacher of a foreign language, I think reading is a key activity. But this is another story that I am not going to step into.
